Q1. How do I setup Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents?

Using Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents is easy and setting up takes only a few seconds.
To set up Bit Guardian Parental Dashboard:

Step 1: Install the app on a parent device.

Step 2: Create a new account or login with existing one - enter your name, email address, mobile number, and a secure password.

Step 3: Verify your code and create a Data Protection Password for end-to-end encryption.

Step 4: Add a hint so that you can recall your password later on. Tap Set Password.

Step 5: Tap Mail Me to send a copy of your password to your email ID.

Note: Please refer to FAQ no. 10 and 11 to know about Data Protection Password in detail.

Step 6: Grant permission to receive sound alerts from your kid’s device even on Do Not Disturb mode.

Step 7: Your profile is successfully created. Now you can add your kids with their name, gender, number, and date of birth.

Note: You can have either Parent or Kid version on the same device. If you already have one version on that phone and want to use it for another one, then you have to uninstall the already existing version first. Then install the version you want to have and run it once.

Q2. How do I setup Bit Guardian Parental Control for Kids?

To set up Bit Guardian Kid’s Dashboard:

Step 1: Install the app on a child’s device.

Step 2: Agree to the term and conditions.

Step 3: Login either by scanning the QR code from parent’s device or by using the parent’s credential.

Note: Go to parent profile, get the QR code and scan it to log in to your kid’s device.

Step 4: Grant permissions, entered while setting up the parental dashboard for end to end encryption, and add the kids.

Step 5: Insert the Data Protection Password to send a copy of your password to your email ID.

Step 6: Select your kid and tap Continue. Your kid’s device is now successfully set up.

Step 7: Children can press the SOS button from their dashboard in an emergency.

Q3. On which platforms is Bit Guardian Parental Control accessible?

Bit Guardian Parental Control is accessible on the following platforms:

  • Android (4.4 - kitkat and above) – Parent mode and Child Mode.

Q4. How can I obtain QR code for my kid’s device?

When you install Bit Guardian Parental Control on the parent device and register for the first time, a QR code is generated for your kid’s phone. By scanning this QR code, you can log into your kid’s device.

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: On the tab bar, tap Profile. You will find the QR code.

Q5. My kid has the QR code. Can I generate a new one?

Yes, you can generate a new QR code whenever you feel that it has been compromised.

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Under the Profile tab, find the QR code.

Step 3: Tap on Generate new QR code.

Note: Even if your kid has the QR code, he/she will not be able to log into the parent’s profile. Therefore, it is not a matter of much concern.

Q6. How do I link my kid's phone?

Linking your kid’s phone to the parent device is fairly easy. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Install & Open Bit Guardian Parental Control for Kids on your kid’s Android device.

Step 2: Read the agreement and tap I Agree.

Step 3: To log in, enter email ID and password used while creating the parent account. OR log in through the QR code accessible from the parent profile.

Note: Go to parent profile, get the QR code and scan it to log in to your kid’s device.

Step 4: Allow all permissions.

Step 5: Activate device administrators, permit drawing over other apps and give accessibility permission. Grant them to proceed.

Step 6: Enter your Data Protection Password and tap Continue.

Step 7: Select your kid and tap Continue. Your kid’s device is now successfully set up.

Q7. I don’t remember my password. Is there a way to get it back?

There is no need to panic. You can easily set a new password if you forget the old one. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Tap on Forgot Password on the login page.

Step 2: Enter your registered email address and click Send.

Step 3: You will receive a one-time password (OTP) on your email address.

Step 4: Enter the OTP, new password and confirm it. Tap Change Password.

Q8. How do I add my kid on the app?

As you log in to the parent profile for the first time, Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents will automatically direct you to the ‘Add a Kid’ screen. Enter your kid’s details, and you are good to go. However, you can also add kids from the Parent dashboard.

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Tap the plus icon in the top right corner of the screen.

Step 3: On the next screen, enter your kid’s details and tap Continue.

Q9. Can I edit my kid’s profile?

You can edit your kid’s profile from the Parent dashboard.

Step 1: Go to Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Tap on the icon next to your kid’s name. It resembles a pencil.

Step 3: Edit the details and click on Update to save your changes.

Q10. What is Data Protection Password or DPP?

Bit Guardian Parental Control takes the security of your kids’ data seriously. The purpose of Data Protection Password is to protect the confidentiality of your kid’s digital data while it is stored on our servers or transmitted to your device using the internet.

All your kids’ data is encrypted and guarded by an encryption key known as the Data Protection Password or DPP (set by the parent). All data can only be viewed in its original format when it is decrypted with the correct Data Protection Password.

Note: Please refer to FAQ no. 11 for more details.

Q11. I do not remember my DPP. How do I reset it?

If you forgot your DPP, you can use the hint to recall it. In case, if you have mailed the DPP to your email address, you can retrieve it from there too.

But still, if you cannot recall it, there are two ways in which you can reset the Data Protection Password.

Method 1: From the DPP Screen

When you enter the wrong DPP on the Data Protection Password screen, you will be automatically redirected to an Incorrect Password pop-up.

Step 1: If you can recall your password using the hint or retrieve it from your email ID, tap Try Again, and if not tap Reset Now.

Step 2: Enter your new password. Re-enter the same password to confirm it. Add a hint so that you can recall your password later on. Tap Set Password.

Step 3: A Reset DPP Warning pops-up reminding that when you tap Reset Now all previously stored kid’s data on our servers will be deleted. If you want to proceed, tap on it anyway.

Step 4: Your new DPP is successfully set. Tap Mail Me to send a copy of your password to your email ID.


Method 2: From the Parent Profile

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: On the tab bar at the bottom, tap on Profile and then on Reset Data Protection Password.

Step 3: Enter your new password. Re-enter the same password to confirm it. Add a hint so that you can recall your password later on. Tap Set Password.

Step 4: A Reset DPP Warning pops-up reminding that when you tap Reset Now all previously stored kid’s data on our servers will be deleted. If you want to proceed, tap on it anyway.

Step 5: Your new DPP is successfully set. Tap Mail Me to send a copy of your password to your email ID.

Note 1: For security purposes, we do not save your DPP anywhere on our server. Therefore, we highly recommend you to mail a copy of your DPP to your email ID so that in case if you forget it, you can always retrieve it from there.

Note 2: Every time you reset your DPP, you will end up losing all your kid’s data previously stored on our server.

Q12. I am asked to verify my DPP every time I log in. Why is it needed?

The primary purpose of the Data Protection Password (DPP) is to protect and secure your kid’s data while it is stored on our servers or transmitted to your device using the internet. DPP is designed to ensure that the data remains in encrypted form and you are the only one who can decrypt it by entering the correct password.

Bit Guardian Parental Control asks you to verify your Data Protection Password (DPP) every time you log in to the parent mode or child mode because it is not saved anywhere on our servers.

We highly recommend you to mail a copy of your DPP to your email ID so that in case if you forget it, you can always retrieve it from there.

Q13. I have reset my Data Protection Password (DPP). But now I am no longer able to get my kid’s current location on my Dashboard.

Also,
The ‘Find my location’ feature under Anti-Theft is not working.

Also,
The previously blocked contact list under Calls is no longer visible. How do I fix it?

Every time you reset your Data Protection Password (DPP) on the parent device, it is automatically updated on your kid’s device. But sometimes, due to poor data connectivity or any other technical shortcomings, the new DPP may fail to sync on your kid’s device. To fix this issue, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to kid’s dashboard.

Step 2: Under Settings, tap on Data Protection Password and enter the new DPP manually.

Step 3: Wait for a couple of minutes and verify your kid’s location and the blocked contact details.

Q14. How do I delete my account?

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: On the tab bar at the bottom, tap on Profile and then on Manage Account.

Step 3: Here, you need to tap on Delete Account.

Note: If you delete your account, you will permanently lose your profile and all previously stored kid’s data.

Q15. What is the refund policy of Bit Guardian?

If parents uninstall the app within two hours after the installation, they will get the refund. If it has been more than two hours, parents will have a refund according to the google policies.

Q1. What is Parent dashboard?

The Parent dashboard is the home screen from where the entire application is controlled. It is the one-stop place where you can add kids, manage and enable settings (panic, app block, app install block, kiosk mode, GPS, calls, time schedule and anti-Theft), receive a panic alert, view current location, reports and requests.

Note: You need to create an account to access your Bit Guardian Parental Control dashboard.

Q2. How do I go through my kid’s report?

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Identify your kid whose reports you want to view.

Step 3: Tap on Reports.

Q3. Where do I view my kid’s location from?

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Identify your kid whose location you want to view.

Step 3: Tap on Location to get his/her current address on the map.

Q4. How to fix GPS settings for receiving correct location on Bit Guardian Parental Control App?

Step 1: Go into the child device Settings menu.

Step 2: Scroll down to Security & Lock Screen and find Location settings.

Step 3: Tap on Location and make sure GPS is enabled. If yes, then click on Google Location Accuracy and confirm Improve Location Accuracy is enabled (high accuracy).

Step 4: If both settings are correctly configured, then check the current location on Google Maps to identify if it is reflecting the correct status.

Q5. How does the panic alert work?

The panic alert on the parent’s device and the SOS button on the kid’s screen works in connection to each other. Whenever your kid taps on the SOS button, you will receive a panic alert on the dashboard and on your email id with the current location of your kid.

Q6. Who will receive the Panic Alert Email?

The panic Alert email is triggered with Parent’s email address as primary ID, and other contacts are marked in CC.

Note: All email addresses are visible in the alert mail.

Q8. How do I block apps on my kid’s phone?

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Identify your kid for whom you want to block apps.

Step 3: Go to Settings and tap on App Block. Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents will display a list of all applications installed on kid's the device.

Step 4: To Enable settings, turn on the toggle button.

Step 5: Tap on the lock visible on the right-hand side of the app you want to block.

Step 6: Tap Apply to save your settings.

Note: Your kid should be linked to your device first.

Q9. How do I restrict my kids from downloading unwanted apps?

Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents allows the parent to restrict kids from downloading a new application.

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Identify your kid for whom you want to block new app downloads.

Step 3: Go to Settings and tap on App Install Block. Turn on the toggle button to Enable setting. It will block the Google Play Store on your kid’s device.

Note: Your kid should be linked to your device first.

Q10. What is Kiosk mode?

The Kiosk mode in Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents is a feature that enables the parent to control everything on the kids’ device. It lets parent to specify particular apps and activities kids may use on their devices. They will be able to access only those activities authorized by the parent.

To enable Kiosk mode,

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Tap on the kid and go to Settings.

Step 3: Tap Kiosk Mode.

Step 4: As you Enable setting, it will lock everything on the kid’s device.

Step 5: Tap on the lock visible on the right-hand side of each app and unlock the ones you want to allow.

Step 6: Go to your kid’s device. Tap on the Home button and set Bit Guardian Parental Control for Kids as its default launcher.

Q11. How do I set up a Geofence on my kid’s device?

Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents allows you to set up Geofence on your kid’s device.

First of all, you need to make sure that the location service is enabled on your kid’s device. You may do so from the phone Settings.

To set Geofence, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Tap on the kid and go to Settings.

Step 3: Tap GPS.

Step 4: To Enable setting, turn on the toggle button.

Step 5: Under Geofence, tap on Center Location to choose the starting point on the map. You can also choose a nearby place from the suggestions visible.

Step 6: Select the location you want to use.

Step 7: Tap on Radius and set the distance in meters. Tap Apply. It will create a safe zone around the area, and when your kid leaves that zone, an alert will be sent to the parent’s device.

Note: Recommended radius is 100 meters minimum for better accuracy results.

Q12. How do I set up speed limit on my kid’s device?

Setting up a speed limit on your kid’s device is very easy. Here’s how you do it.

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Tap on the kid and go to Settings.

Step 3: Tap GPS.

Step 4: To Enable setting, turn on the toggle button.

Step 5: Under Geofence, tap Speed Limit to set the maximum speed limit. Tap Apply. When your kid exceeds that limit, an alert will be sent to the parent’s device immediately.

Q13. Can I block my kid’s contact list?

Yes, you can. Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents offers a Calls feature that allows you to block all contact, unknown calls or specific numbers you don’t want your kid to contact.

Note: This feature won’t block any text messages sent or received on your kid’s phone.

Q14. How do I set game time on my kid’s phone?

Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents has a Time Schedule feature that lets you set a timetable for how long your kid can use the phone to play games.

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Tap on the kid and go to Settings.

Step 3: Tap Time Schedule.

Step 4: To Enable setting, turn on the toggle button. Tap Games.

Step 5: Turn on the toggle button. Set Start Time and End Time to configure your kid’s game time. Choose Repeat days.

Step 6: Tap Apply.

Q15. My kid’s device is lost. Is there a way to find it?

Yes, there is. Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents can also help you locate your kid’s device on the map when you cannot find it.

Step 1: Go to the Parent dashboard.

Step 2: Tap on the kid and go to Settings.

Step 3: Under the Settings menu, find Anti-Theft and tap on it. The Location Tracker feature will help you find your kid’s phone using GPS.

Note: This feature works only if the location service is pre-enabled on your kid’s device.

Q16. I want to view and control my kid’s activities from more than one device. Is it possible?

No, it is not possible. You can install Bit Guardian Parental Control for Parents and log in to your account from a single device only. If you try to log in from a different device, you will be automatically logged out of the previous one.

Q17. I have set bedtime for my kid, but she is still able to use her phone. Why?

One of the most popular time schedule feature among parents, bedtime has been introduced to help you give your kid a good night sleep. But sometimes when you enable this feature, it may not reflect on your kid’s phone. This may happen because of the following reasons:

  • a. Poor internet connection or no data connectivity

    You need to have active internet connections on both devices at all times. If the connectivity is lost or turned off, whatever settings you apply during this period will not be applicable on your kid’s phone. No data will be synced and no report will be generated. This can be one of the reasons why the bedtime didn’t function on your kid’s device.

  • b. Data did not sync properly

    Data may not have synced properly on your kid’s device. Not to worry. This one is easily fixable. On the kid’s dashboard, go to the settings icon and tap on Refresh Now. All your settings will be synced.

Q18. My kid is able to play games even after game hours. Why?

Also,
My kid is able to use social and media apps even after the set time schedule. Why?

Sometime when you enable game time, education app time, social app time, media app time or any other app time schedule, changes may not reflect on your kid’s phone immediately. This may happen because of the following reasons:

  • a. Poor internet connection or no data connectivity

    You need to have active internet connections on both devices at all times. If the connectivity is lost or turned off, whatever settings you apply during this period will not be applicable on your kid’s phone. No data will be synced and no report will be generated.

  • b. Data did not sync properly

    Data may not have synced properly on your kid’s device. Not to worry. This one is easily fixable. On the kid’s dashboard, go to the settings icon and tap on Refresh Now. All your settings will be synced.

Q19. What is the App Time Limit?

App Time Limit is a new feature on the app that restricts kids app time to a couple of hours by creating app groups. These app groups can be created based on similar category of apps, kid’s schedule , or groups based on the level of kid’s app addiction. The child will only be able to use apps for a fixed number of hours on scheduled days.

Q20. What are App Groups?

An App Group consists of similar or dissimilar apps that are time bound by parents to discourage excessive time spent on those apps.

Q21. How many groups can parents create?

There are no restrictions on the number of groups.

Q22. Can a single app overlap in more than one group?

No, a single app can be a part of one group only as one app cannot have more than one rule defined.

Q23. Can a parent edit App Group?

Yes, a parent can edit and delete an App Group.

Q24. How do I disable restrictions on my kid’s phone?

Step 1: Go to the Kid dashboard.

Step 2: Tap on the menu button (three dots) at the top right corner of your kid’s device.

Step 3: Now from the drop down list, tap on Disable Restriction.

Step 4: Enter the credentials used while registering the account and tap continue.

Important: The restriction will be lifted for 2 minutes.

Q25. How to check app version?

On Parent device:

Tap on the navigation drawer icon in the upper-left corner (you can access navigation drawer by right swipe also) and then tap on the “i” icon to reach the “About Us” screen.

On Child device:

On the Child Dashboard, tap on the 3 dots in the upper-right corner.

The Version will be listed in the lower-right corner of the pop-up window.
